Safety Valve Cut Away Diagram
The cut away diagram below showcases the key components of a typical spring-loaded API safety relief valve. An API safety valve is a pressure relief device that complies with the standards set by the American Petroleum Institute (API) - typically API Standard 526. It's used in pressurised systems (like pipelines, pressure vessels, and reactors) to prevent over-pressure conditions that could lead to equipment failure or explosions. These diagrams are invaluable for understanding the construction and operation of safety valves, especially when performing maintenance or troubleshooting.
Note, a non-API safety valve has many of the same components except it won't have a blowdown ring, and the disk and holder maybe combined into one component. Also, it may not have a separate inlet nozzle, with the seat being a part of the main valve body.
